The morning safari sets off at around 6:00 AM and runs for roughly three hours. This is the classic dawn drive: the air is cool, the light is soft and low, and animals that moved through the night are still active on the rocks before the day warms up. Pickup happens before dawn, so you will be collected in the dark and reach the granite hills as the sun comes up over them.
Evening safari timing
The evening safari begins at around 3:30 PM and also lasts about three hours, wrapping up near sunset. As the heat drops, leopards begin to stir and move onto the ledges and boulders, and the low golden light over Jawai is superb for photography. It is an easy, unhurried start to the day for anyone who is not a fan of pre-dawn wake-ups.
Morning or evening — which should you choose?
Both drives are excellent and cover leopard territory. The morning tends to be cooler and quieter, with crisp light; the evening rewards you with warm, golden hour tones and a sunset finish. Many guests who are serious about wildlife book both — either across two days or as a single full-day safari — to give themselves the widest window. If you have only one slot, pick whichever suits your sleep and your travel schedule; neither is a wrong choice.

For the morning drive, pack a warm layer and something windproof, especially in winter when pre-dawn temperatures drop.
